Hi. My name is Kelsey. I have major clinical depression. I recently moved away from my parents and I am now living on my own. Since I have moved my depression has worsened and I am unable to leave the house on my own. I live with my boyfriend, who works full time. When he is at work I am restricted to the house. I came up with an idea that can help me to live a normal life and leave the house on my own. I thought of getting a service dog. A dog that can go with me anywhere. While I was living with my parents the only time I left the house was when I walked the dogs. Now that I have moved I no longer have any dogs; even if I did have dogs the most I could do is take them for walks. I need to be able to go shopping, pick up my medicine, and visit public places. I need a dog that is permitted in such places. A service dog would make all of these activities possible.
A deeper reason for having a service dog would be for therapeutic reasons. Animals can help with most mental disorders. Having a service dog would improve my mental wellbeing greatly. I love animals more than most anything. If I were able to leave home and go to school I would want to study animal behavior. I used to volunteer at animal shelters and this helped a lot. Regular therapy and medication only does so much for me. While having my dogs with me I was never afraid to talk to people or introduce myself. They give me a confidence that I would not otherwise have. My hope is that this service dog, this companion, this friend, could help me become a happier person and help me to live a normal life. I have a lot of trouble functioning on a daily basis. I am tired of being restricted to my bedroom.
I have made the first step toward getting a service dog and I have hit a brick wall. I have contacted a service dog provider and received the proper documents to start the training process; unfortunately I do not have the sufficient funds. Because of my condition I am unable to work so I do not have nearly enough money to obtain a service dog. I am now starting a foundation to receive donations to get my service dog, and begin my process to a somewhat normal life. Please help me get my new best friend and help me get on the track to recovery. Please donate or spread the word. I will forever be grateful. Thank you very much for your support.
